Product Ratings
Decanter 91pt

A ripe and ready to drink Pinot Noir, showing generous aromas of cola spice, sassafras, and candied red fruits and perfumed oak spices. The palate is lush, with juicy black and blueberries and spicy plums enveloping the senses, finishing with warm Christmas spices.

by Decanter, 2025

Ageing

10 months in 3% New, 97% neutral oak barrel.

Estate

Under vine since 1849, Eden Rift's mountain vineyard was farmed by the Valliant family during the 1930s and 1940s. The Valliant wines pay tribute to their pioneering spirit and reflect a continuum of enological efforts along California's dramatic Central Coast - terrain featuring coastal mountains, situated atop the Pacific Plate, a tectonic plate of lifted seabed, along the Golden State coastline.

Harvest

September 5-17, 2022.

Tasting notes

Valliant Pinot Noir is made with the same authenticity, simplicity, and raw perseverance as Eden Rift. The wines are romantic and honest, just like the families that have farmed this estate over generations. The 2022 vintage showcases bright acidity and balanced structure. Soft and silky in texture, it is an approachable wine with classic cherry pit, savory, brambleberry, cherry and plum with a refined finish.

Terroir

Sourced exclusively from Eden Rift Vineyards in the Gavilan mountains, 20 miles from Monterey Bay, this wine in the 2022 vintage is primarily composed of “Dijon” clones - 115, 777 & 828 with small additions of heritage clones on site.

Vinification

Vinified in separate lots, all the fruit was gently crushed, de-stemmed, and fermented in open-top tanks on native yeasts. Once pressed, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels from assorted coopers. Ultimately, the wine was barrel aged for ten months before being bottled.
