Product Ratings
Decanter 93pt

Marianova eschews the classic Bolgheri Bordeaux-style blend in favour of Sangiovese and Syrah in equal parts. Red and black berry scents are intertwined with some balsamic herb wafts. Textural and polished, there's good structure and bright acidity. Wild strawberry, blackberry and Mediterranean scrub flavours dominate, with pleasing mid-palate sapidity and plenty of freshness on the finish. A balanced wine with plenty to offer in this vintage.

James Suckling 96pt

A serious and layered wine with aromas of earth, black cherries, bitter chocolate, subtle black pepper and a balsamic touch. Full-bodied with a lush, dense palate and velvety tannins that are still youthful yet show fruit concentration. Supple and refreshing, with a tight, polished finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

Vinous Media 94pt

The 2022 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova is Satta's Syrah and Sangiovese blend. Juicy dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, incense and graphite open first. This mid-weight, vibrant coastal red has a lot going on. I especially admire its energy and classy, polished personality.

Wine Advocate 93pt

The Michele Satta 2022 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova is an equal split of Sangiovese and Syrah, an unconventional pairing that comes together in a compelling and coherent expression. Sangiovese sets the tone with acidity, linearity and focused sharpness on the palate, while Syrah contributes volume, darker fruit tones and natural spice that fill out the mid-palate. Both varieties add layers of savory detail, with hints of grilled herbs and stem-derived spice, shaped by fermentation in cement with 30% whole-cluster fruit and 18 months of aging in amphorae and barrique. Production is limited to 2,500 bottles.

Wine Enthusiast 95pt

A simultaneously crunchy and floral nose opens with roses, hibiscus, cherry blossoms and tart berries, which eventually give way to darker berries. Blackberries and orange marmalade define the palate, even as a fresh burst of wild mint sparkles overhead, before a salty, earthy finish.
